Most of us opt to spend our Bible-reading time in other sections of Scripture.
That's unfortunate, for there among the odd laws we may never understand (such as the command not to boil a baby goat in its mother's milk), we can find rules that should be basic to any decent society.
"If you come across your enemy's ox or donkey wandering off, be sure to take it back to him," God commanded Israel in Exodus 23:4. You say that's not relevant to your city world? But what if you find your neighbor's iPod or his Lexus where it should not be? Is that any concern of yours?
In Deuteronomy 22:2-3, Moses expands the rule about lost donkeys and oxen. To begin with, he said, if the owner of the wandering animal doesn't live close by, whoever finds it is supposed to take it home and keep it safe until the owner comes looking for it.
Then Moses adds, "Do the same if you find your brother's donkey or his coat or anything he loses. Do not ignore it."
Wouldn't it be neat to live in a community where you know all of your possessions are safe, even when they're misplaced or temporarily away from your safekeeping? Jesus had laws like this in mind when he taught that such rules boil down to loving your neighbor as yourself.
How do you want a stranger to treat your valuables if he comes upon them? That's how you should treat his - whether it's his ox or his donkey or his laptop or his wallet. All through this section of our Bible we find simple rules to protect people we could victimize easily. Long before ADA, God warned his people not to mistreat the deaf or the blind (Leviticus 19:14).
"Return a poor man's pawned coat every night so he can sleep in it," God cautioned the rich. "Pay a poor man every day before sunset," he told bosses (Deuteronomy 24:13, 15). Can you see how rules like this would translate into fair practices in today's marketplace?
Doctors take an oath to do no harm with their medical skills. Leviticus implies that all of us should live by such a rule. "Do not do anything that endangers your neighbor's life," we are instructed (19:16).
Why should we live by such rules? In every case the reason is the same. Over and over the lawgiver reminds us: "I am the Lord."

Missing

My camera is back! That's a story in itself. I am quite proud to have reached 18 years. The credit is God's. We have been so blessed to be in a church that keeps marriage as such a high focus. I really can't say we would still be together without the learning opportunities we have had through our church. Marriage is a lot of learning and putting into practice.

This is the basics of what our church teaches on marriage.

- The most important issue in marriage is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. This is huge.

- Marriage must be the first priority. (yes before kids, only second to God)

- Marriage is work. There is no such thing as a marriage that operates solely on chemistry or "soul mate" steam.

- Marriage requires teamwork and sacrifice.

- Dominance destroys intimacy and goodwill.

- We are very different from our spouses and must honor each others unique natures and work hard to meet each others needs.

Men’s needs Honor; sex; friendship; home support

Women’s needs Security; non-sexual affection; Open and honest communication; leadership

We must deal with anger every day and not go to bed with unresolved issues.

- Marriage takes faith. Many issues are too big for us and putting our faith in God gives us the grace to deal with issues properly as we invite God into our circumstances. Also, one spouse trusting in God and doing the right thing can turn the worst marriage around.

http://www.tfchurch.org/

http://www.marriagetoday.org/site/PageServer - watch, listen, or download - it's such good info.

The BrocanteHome Puttery Treats Challenge

For my love of Alison and England, I must enter this!

I love Alison over at http://brocantehome.typepad.com/ she shares ways to make your life lovely with "scrumptious" ways to "create a simpler way of life: a life that celebrates simplicity, authenticity and whimsy." Not just because I love tea and beautiful tea cups, but the challenge is not about England, so on with the puttery treat.

One of her puttery treat ideas was to "Find a blackboard and write yourself a daily maxim; a favorite quote or a line from a poem that makes you smile. Make a commitment to yourself to change it regularly.".....

Mine is a whiteboard I have over my desk. I would post a pic, but it has some other stuff on it too. I really do enjoy looking up and seeing more than just a to do list. So here are three of the quotes.

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life and only a few find it Matt. 7:13-14

We don't manage time we manage ourselves. -Randy Carlson

The measure of a man is not his strength, but the depth of his nobility.

Another one is to "Use the stacks and stacks of vintage linens I know we are all hoarding. Stretch scraps of vintage embroidery over canvas and prop them one leaning against the other on your mantelpiece. Cover a pin board in a tablecloth. Peg a line of pretty hankies across your kitchen window. Use crocheted table runners to scoop back your curtains...."

This is my version in my laundry room. I display them on a vintage baby bed side rail. It's sooo much better than having them in a drawer. They are art on my wall. I have vintage hankies, pillowcases, doilies and a few aprons.

Another one of her Treats

"Delicious Doilies.

Aside from using them for all manner of crockery resting purposes, I've got them in the bathroom and the bedroom, and they decorate my kitchen a treat: looking particularly divine under my kitchen herbs...Thread them on to ribbon and string across your windows so the sun makes pretty patterns on your walls.Sew together to make table mats.Use them in the fridge (Who doesn't want a pretty fridge?)Stitch two the same together and stuff with lavender......."

Ya see, I too have a doily obsession. I did this to my fridge back in February. I used paper doilies. I am now using vinyl Martha place mats, that look very similar. It is easier to clean than the glass, which is a little scratched. I would show you a better pic, but you don't want to see in there now with all the Thanksgiving fixins, its rather a mess.

Mess or not, I do love to read The Brocante Home Chronicles.

Blog? what blog?

Wow, I am not much of a blogger. I think she wants to be our dog. I must say I liked her from the first day my neighbors got her, and I think she felt the same way about us. She is as big as a horse. At first she did annoy me a bit. She dug under the fence into our yard, and well, our dogs don't like her. Once that problem was taken care of (neighbors put up electric fence). She has found other ways of getting out of her yard. A couple of days ago the neighbor and I arrived home at the same time. Well she came around the corner of their house and ran right past them to us. ( I promise we don't feed her.) That was pretty funny. Yesterday I was leaving to get Justin from school and she climbed in the car with me. It took a little coaxing to get her out. I sure wanted to take her with me. I figured if the neighbors saw me I would really have some explaining to do.

Garden

Summer is gone. That is sooo funny! I must say, it is nice to hear compliments about him every time we set foot in United. The checker told me today - "I haven't worked here very long, but I have never seen him stand around." I wonder what the people he had to "retrain" think about him. Last weekend one of his managers had him retrain a couple of people on their attitude, spirit, and hustle. The sermon series “In Mortal Danger, The Fight For The Family in America" its in the "God's Plan for Husbands and Fathers" sermon. http://www.jhm.org/ Well, I cant link to the specific sermon. I love what he says families are. Here is some of what he said.

If the family falls the church will fall.

Is there a family in your house?
A family is not a house that has a prestigious address.
If you live in a house of gold and there is a war inside, it's a prison by any other terms.
A roof will keep out the rain, the floor will support the tottering steps of an infant or of the aged.
A door will welcome friends or keep out enemies, but that is not family.
A family is not a place with out problems.
There are no perfect families.
There are no perfect marriages.
There are no perfect husbands
There are no perfect wives.
There are no perfect children.
There are no perfect people.

Is there a family in your house?
A family is the picture of mother cooking dinner for someone she loves.
It is the laugh of a baby, the strength of a father.
It is the warmth of loving hearts, light from happy eyes.
Kindness, loyalty, and covenant love and demonstration everyday.
Home is the first school and our first church that I ever attended.
I did not go to school to learn how to pray, when I went to school I knew how to pray.
I learned from my parents what was was right and what was wrong.
What was good in the sight of God and what was wrong in the sight of God.
Family is where you go for comfort when you are hungry or sick.
Family is where - when you have been battered and bruised by the world, and they will open the door and heal you. Like heaven on earth. They will anoint your wounds with the oil of gladness and wrap their arms around you that feel like cords of steal holding you together in the day of storm.
Family is where joy is shared and sorrow is eased.
They will be glad for your success. They will be delighted for your promotion on the job. They will be proud of your making the honor roll at school. They will buy every newspaper on the newspaper rack because you are the high school football hero, or cheerleader, or the business man of the year, or mother of the year.
Family is where mothers and fathers are respected and loved. They are never addressed as old man or old lady. Their names are used in hushed tones of reverence and respect.
In advanced years they are not shuffled in the side lines to be ignored, they are family. Whether they are in a wheel chair or reclining on a couch, because they are too feeble to sit up they are there because they belong there. They are your family; they are your flesh and blood.

Family is where children are wanted and considered blessings from the Lord. They are not looked upon as an inconvenience to your precious career. They are not considered detestable because they might destroy the high school figure of the self-serving mother. They are angels unaware, God sent to your home for a few days until they can be released and make their own life and impact society. Hopefully with the goodness that you have taught them.
Family is where the simplest food is good enough for kings, because it has been earned with the sweat of an honest days work.
Where money is not nearly as important as loving kindness.
Family is where the tea kettle sings with joy.
Family is where one man loves one woman.
And that man and that woman love their children.
And the angels of heaven descend from the balconies of heaven to enjoy the company of that family, that the Bible says are as the days of heaven on earth, that IS family. May God bless it and preserve it.

This part of his message was based on a poem

What is home? A roof to keep out the rain. Four walls to keep out the wind. Floors to keep out the cold. Yes, but home is more than that.
It is the laugh of a baby, the song of a mother, the strength of a father. Warmth of living hearts, light from happy eyes, kindness, loyalty, comradeship. Home is first school and first church for young ones, where they learn what is right, what is good, and what is kind. Where they go for comfort when they are hurt or sick. Where joy is shared and sorrow eased. Where fathers and mothers are respected and loved. Where children are wanted. Where the simplest food is good enough for kings because it is earned. Where money is not as important as loving kindness. Where even the tea kettle sings from happiness. That is home. God bless it. ~Madame Ernestine Schumann-Heink

What an awesome message!
Is your tea kettle singing from happiness?

learning to blog

<p style="MARGIN: 0px auto 10px;
